BACKGROUND: The Gorch Fock, known between 1949 and 2003 as the Russian Tovarichtchi, is a three-masted barque built in 1933 by Blohm & Voss shipyards in Hamburg. It was one of the school of Kriegsmarine sailboats with her sister ships: the former became Horst Wessel American Eagle, the former Albert Leo Schlageter became the Portuguese Sagres II and Mircea controlled by the Romanian Navy. The Gorch Fock was named in honor of the German writer Johann Kinau who wrote under the pseudonym sailor who served aboard the cruiser Wiesbaden and died at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. The Gorch Fock was put water 23 August 1958 and has since undertaken more than 150 cruises, including a tour around the world in 1988. AND TODAY ?
