VOLUME 1
Mauritius a confetti in the middle of the Indian Ocean. And yet, a world island, which since the 16th century, has attracted the desire of many navigators. A place of passage for international trade, it was populated from Europe, Africa and Asia.
VOLUME 2
A small point in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius has a rich history that places it at the crossroads of the world. And the beginnings of a construction marked in particular by slavery. In this volume 2, our three heroes cover the period from 1767 to 1885, with the transition from French to English colonization, the abolition of slavery, and the development of indentured labour. An adventurous journey through realities that are often little or poorly known…
VOLUME 3
Marks the democratic consolidation of the island.
As the trade union and political awakening progresses, we move from the first elections of 1886 to the decisive turning point of the accession to independence in 1968.
Moving from the creation of "communities" to the development of "Mauricianism", via the inter-ethnic riots of 1911 or 1999.
VOLUME 4
An integral part of the Republic of Mauritius, Rodrigues Island has a history of its own.
Born from a volcanic eruption around 1.5 million years ago, it was populated later than Mauritius and Reunion, dating back to the 2nd half of the 18th century.
It has nonetheless nourished its own stories and mysteries, like this project to establish an “island of Eden”…
With its lagoon twice the size of its land, Rodrigues is an island where the sea both opens and isolates.
And which has forged a unique and particular character in the heart of this Indian Ocean where it has played an often overlooked role.
