Café de Chamarel

For sixty years, the Café de Chamarel has become one of the treasures to be preserved in Mauritius.

Since 1967, the Chamarel sanctuary has housed the only cultivated and roasted coffee in Mauritius.

The coffee tree, a small tree that can still reach a height of 9 meters, produces one of the most sought after varieties of coffee in the world: Arabica coffee beans.

You will find the 40 acres plantation, on volcanic grounds south of the city of Chamarel, barely 3 kilometers from the famous "Seven colored earth".

The exploitation of coffee trees and the production of coffee beans have retained their artisanal methods.

Temperature, rainfall and quality of its soils, for Chamarel, sunshine for Case Noyale: these are the qualities sought to produce this exceptional coffee.

It is the only coffee in Mauritius to be grown, roasted and bagged locally: 10,000 tonnes of coffee produced, while retaining the unique quality that has made its reputation.
